Trek Checkpoint ALR 4

Overview

Trek's gravel/adventure focused Checkpoint range also makes a superb base for a commuter bike. A plethora of mounting points for racks, mudguards, bottles and bags means that it's ready to tackle whatever you throw at it.

An alloy frame and carbon forks are the right balance to keep things affordable, but there's no skimping here, the same tech that runs through the entire range is carried through here.

With disc brakes as standard, and outfitted here with a nicely matching set of SKS Raceblades, plus Shimano's classic M520 SPDs, this is an all-weather machine that will happily munch miles all year round. Schwalbe G-One Allround tyres in 35mm width have decent rolling resistance for city streets, but plenty of grip for the occasional bridleway or towpath, and the added air volume is a boon when potholes inevitably strike.
