The ALR 4 is Trek's entry point to the gravel/adventure Checkpoint range.

If you're looking to dip a toe into the adventure bike scene, or simply to complement an existing road bike with something a bit more versatile, the Checkpoint range is well worth a look.

Fitted with 35mm tyres as standard, and taking up to 45mm, the frame isn't simply a relabelled cyclocross bike, it's been designed from scratch for maximum versatility on road and trail in all conditions.

Please note: Trek Bikes can be ordered online, but can only be collected from one of our stores. Trek do not permit any of their retailers to ship bikes to customers.

With a lower bottom bracket than Trek's Boone cross bikes, and a relatively long and low position, this is a stable handling bike that's comfortable for longer rides.

Hydraulic disc brakes, fatter tyres, plus rack and mudguard mounts make this the perfect year round commuter bike, and ideal in winter conditions.

As always with Trek, their huge buying power means that you're getting a very high spec for your money.

Ride it in stripped-down mode for shorter gravel and bridleway blasts, then add on racks, mudguards and bags as required for "bikepacking" adventures or the daily commute. Hidden mudguard mounts keep everything looking neat and sleek.

The clever "Stranglehold" rear dropouts allow it to easily be run singlespeed - or simply to adjust the wheelbase. Go longer for additional stability, or shorter for nippier handling; the choice is yours and it's a doddle to adjust.

These entry-level AL models feature an aluminium frame, with carbon forks (and an alloy steerer). With the larger volume tyres this provides a very acceptable compromise between comfort and light weight.

If you want to take things further, faster, and lighter then step up to the SL series bikes, which have carbon fibre framesets and add Trek's IsoSpeed decoupler for extra comfort.
