We've taken our time to introduce chain waxing here at Bespoke Cycling as we've been thinking and researching long and hard about which wax to offer our clients. Thanks to the tireless research from Zero Friction Cycling, we've settled on Rex Wax as the best option.
Chain waxing has numerous benefits over traditional lubricants:
- Less cleaning - no black lubricant build up, a waxed chain is clean to the touch
- Less friction - smoother running and slick shifting
- Longer lasting - up to 2000 km between wax treatments
Rex Wax itself is hard to source (only shipping direct from Finland), but after we saw it was one of the best options for reducing chain wear in both dry and wet conditions, there was no doubt the extra effort would be worth it for our clients and their bikes.
One key area of focus was treatment longevity... each immersive wax treatment gave very impressive longevity and protection against wear even when the treatment is running very thin.

Rex Black Diamond is also the only bicycle immersive wax that enables you to tailor the wax blend to your riding conditions. Using a combination of white paraffin block as the base wax, with the black mod block containing concentrated additives, we can dial in the wax mixture to suit both the time of year and mileage.
Example wax blends:
11 white base + 1 mod black = Perfect as an all round wax with particular longevity in wet weather.
4 white base + 1 mod black = The perfect dry weather wax. High concentration blend that is extremely long lasting for both road and off-road in dry conditions.
Going forward all you need to do to keep your chain maintained is dry wipe after each ride to remove any external dust and grit, then top up with Black Diamond Wax Chain Lube every ~250 miles.
