Cannondale CAAD12 Disc Ultegra

As carbon frames have gradually become the default choice for a performance bike, aluminium is easily overlooked. Cannondale have an impressive pedigree in alloy race bikes, and whilst their range is now largely focused on carbon, we're glad to see the continuing development of their classic CAAD framesets.

A good alu frame is a thing of beauty, and this elegantly understated CAAD12 is the perfect example. Modern alloys, combined with SmartForm technology, deliver a super clean frame that's as light and as comfortable as the carbon competition (those skinny seat stays make a real difference to the ride quality).

The standout here is Cannondale's own HollowGram Si crankset, another modern classic. The spiderless design keeps things light without compromising on stiffness, and lend it a minimalist look that perfectly complements the silver/grey finish of the frame.

If you're looking for something that little bit different, but without cutting corners on performance, the CAAD12 is well worth a look.
